Nutrition in the ClassromAt FPCC, we strive to provide daily nutritious, appealing meals and snacks. At the same time, as early childhood educators, we have the opportunity teach children about healthy eating options. We are prepared to show children what it means to eat for good health- including how important it is to eat a variety of foods (fruits, grains, vegetables, protein, and dairy) every day.
The "My Plate" program and "Team Nutrition" approach from the USDA encourages centers and schools to serve only nutritious meals and snacks and teach children healthy portions. Using this model for food education helps children become familiar with healthy eating and gives them the nourishment and energy they need to learn, grow, and be healthy.
We are proud to say that all the meals and snacks we serve at FPCC are approved through USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The USDA food options emphasize whole grains and healthy choices for children and families.
